Enhancing DKU’s Academic Quad
View the Project ↗
This project proposes a climate-responsive redesign of Duke Kunshan University’s Academic Quad to transform it from a pass-through space into an outdoor social hub. Using multi-year climate data, sun-path analysis, and observations of student behavior, I designed a system of shade strategies, organic pathways, and flexible seating to improve comfort and encourage lingering and interaction. The proposal balances immediate, low-cost interventions with long-term infrastructural changes, grounding design decisions in both environmental data and social use patterns. This work reflects my interest in how spatial design, data, and human behavior intersect to shape community life.
